Customer Challenge

Client’s advertising growth was significantly driven by personalizing ads through machine learning. As the client rapidly matures its AI/ML models, they aimed to develop a deeper partnership with Google. There were multiple technical blockers and knowledge gaps in ongoing partnership.

Project Deliverables

The project team worked closely with the client at multiple levels:

  • Executive Engagement and Joint Strategy Sessions:

    • Engaged with client executives to understand their machine learning priorities and identify how Google could better support their needs.

    • Secured sponsorship from Google Cloud AI/ML Vice President and conducted alignment sessions

    • Facilitated a joint strategy and roadmap session where the client shared their 2021 machine learning vision.

    • Conducted a deep dive into Google Cloud’s service menu and roadmap offerings, showcasing how Google could assist the client in various areas such as Cloud AI Platform (CAIP), Neural Architecture Search (NAS), and Vision APIs, while discussing upcoming features of interest, including Feature Store, Model Explainability, and Monitoring.

  • Developer Engagement and Building Engineering Relationships:

    • Restarted monthly Tech Talks and Lunch and Learn sessions to engage with developers, capture interest, gather feature requests, and enhance GCP's ML presence at the client.

      • Topics Covered:

        • Unified Cloud AI Platform (uCAIP)

        • Explainability AI

        • Federated Learning

        • Vizier

    • Conducted several ad-hoc sessions stemming from the roadmap discussions, focusing on topics such as Model Explainability, AI Notebooks, TensorFlow Extended (TFX), and Model Monitoring.

Impact

The joint strategy session and executive engagement were well-received by the client, leading to the establishment of a quarterly recurring session that demonstrated their engagement, interest, and appetite for using GCP ML services.

  1. The Tech Talks received positive feedback, with attendance exceeding 35 participants from the client for each of the four sessions. This initiative fostered healthy growth and enablement, and the client valued access to GCP experts.

  2. The client placed two important AI/ML workloads on the Cloud AI Platform (CAIP): their Dynamic Product Ads for monetization and their new Spotlight project launch, which requires content understanding similar to TikTok. All content will be processed through CAIP.
